The Strategic Planning process began in the fall of 2010
with a diverse group of parents, teachers, administrators, school
committee, and community members. The committee attended a two-day
retreat where they reviewed district data and developed three goals for
the district for the next five years.
The Strategic Planning Process was conducted with the following guidelines:
Achieving the mission and vision of the school district;
Focusing on improvement of student achievement;
Identifying strategies that we already had in process that
support the goals, mission and vision and the improvement of student
Identifying strategies or changes in practice that will help
us to achieve our mission and vision and improve student achievement.
Following the goal development, an action team created an
implementation plan for each goal. The district Leadership Team
reviewed the action plan for each goal and the School Committee approved
the plan in April of 2011.
Members of the district leadership team worked with
groups of teachers to create work plans for the 2011-2012 school year.
We are currently implementing these plans. A mid-year review was
submitted to the School Committee in January and a final yearly report
will be delivered to the School Committee in June.
During the 2010-2012 school year, the School Committee
formed and chaired four ad-hoc committees to research and review several
topics of concern that had been generated from the community over the
past few years. The commitees were as follows: Outsourcing (who looked
at transportation and cafeteria services); Technology, Class Size, and
Facilities. The committee reports were presented to the School Committee
in the spring of 2011 and are posted here for your review. These
reports contain information on both short and long-term planning.
This page is designed to keep you updated on the progress of the Strategic Plan as we implment it over the next five years.
